In the fall of 2012, Chase Anderson (Vocals, Guitar, Keys), started a project whose aim was to combine the sonic elements of new wave, shoegaze, alternative rock, electronica, and synth pop into an amalgamation of sonic maximalism that would prove to be a formidable wall of sound on the competitive stages of Austin, Texas. In 2013, Chase, along with former members Jared Templeton and Chance Gilmore, began seeking a drummer. Local ATX beat maker, Mark Son rose to the call, and the band Shapescenes officially formed. 

For the next 6.5 years Shapescenes wrote, recorded, and performed rigorously throughout Central Texas. Challenged by several lineup changes, which included the departures of Chance Gilmore, Josh Chambers, Kyle Johnson, Andrew Carrano, Eric Wilson, and Brad Byram, as well as a pandemic, Shapescenes would go on a 3 year hiatus beginning in early 2020. During that time, Chase felt compelled to continue his musical journey writing music from his home studio. Feeling some limitations from the lack of collaboration, he decided to make a synth pop album using only electronic instruments and his voice. The original intention of the music was to be a new sonic exploration for Shapescenes, but with the uncertainty of the times at hand, Chase felt that he may need to give the project its own name and view it as a separate solo effort in order to ensure its viability. The name Chase assigned to the project was Elegant Tiger. 

After sitting on the music for some time, Chase reached out to Mark and new member Justin Babineaux (Bass) to begin working on Shapescenes’ music again. Ultimately, with new blood coming on board and additional consideration of all the moving pieces, the band decided to move forward under the name Elegant Tiger and consolidate the Shapescenes and ET material. 

Ramping up with new material, a choreographed live show, and a leaner lineup, Elegant Tiger are ready to take on the stage in a new era of sonic experimentation and performance.
